Introducing faith leaders to the concept of justice often leads to powerful shifts in thinking, and hopefully in acting. I had the opportunity to speak with some wonderful leaders today about God’s heart for justice here in England. Empowerment occurs when we realize that Continue reading

Hi All,
We hit our goal for our 27,000 signatures for 27,000,000 slaves last Friday! Thank you everyone who signed it. Meeting our goal doesn’t mean the campaign is over, there’s something that will be unleashed Continue reading
Considerations for Prayer
It is late, but I wanted to post a quick update regarding DC life. Here are a couple of progressions that you can keep in your prayers.
1.) I am conducting a literature review regarding Commercially Sexually Exploited Children in the Washington DC area. This review will translate into a research project next year to develop a research instrument to adequately identify the problem and add valuable quantitative data.
2.) We at IJM collected 23,000+ signatures for our State of the Union Campaign, if you haven’t already signed it please click here. It takes about 30 seconds. This letter will be received by Continue reading
Human Trafficking and the State of the Union
Tonight President Obama is giving his State of the Union address and we are calling on you to demand he make the United States a leader in ending modern day slavery. Last year we at International Justice Mission collected 21,000 signatures, which were delivered to the administration by Holly Burkhalter, IJM’s Vice President of Government Relations. Each signature last year was one step towards influencing the President’s dialogue and agenda this year. Now is the time to Continue reading
First Day at IJM
Without details, today was one of the most incredible days in my life. I am so fortunate to have this opportunity to be around gifted, God-centered people that believe that justice is at the heart of God’s character. It’s 11:30pm and I need to wake up by 5:30, so I’m going to keep this short for now, but I just wanted to jot some thoughts down.
The 3 goals for our training week:
- Grow closer to Continue reading
A New Chapter…
Dear Friends and Family,
I hope that this past year has been filled with memorable moments and much to be grateful for. It has been great to be back home in Sacramento for the majority of December. As many of you may be aware, I am taking this spring semester off and will be beginning an internship with International Justice Mission as their Government Relations Intern on January 9. God continues to open doors for me as I put my energy into combating social injustices like human trafficking. International Justice Mission (IJM) is a human rights agency that brings rescue to victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and Continue reading

Smuggling and Trafficking In Human Beings Review
Summer 2011
2.5 Stars
Sheldon X. Zhang. Smuggling and Trafficking in Human Beings. Westport, CT: Praeger Publishers. 2007. Pp. ix, 165.
Sheldon X. Zhang, the Department Chair of Sociology at San Diego State University and dedicated researcher on the issue of human smuggling, has constructed a book that attempts to pick apart the different puzzle pieces of human smuggling while trying to avoid political discussion. By breaking smuggling down into different chapters about smuggling through legal channels, what are the typical populations of migrants, how the human smuggling enterprise works, differentiating human smuggling and human trafficking (my purpose for reading the book), and his proposed solution to combat human smuggling, he makes a case that doesn’t support one specific political platform.
Overall, his book was very informative, laced with Continue reading
Origins
I think the more that we delve into the issue of human trafficking and sexual exploitation we begin to wonder where it originated. The easy answer is: there will always be a demand for sex–and the oldest job for a woman historically, was to be a prostitute. You can set up the women’s right argument on either side:
Pro-Prostitution
Should people have control of selling their bodies in order for survival? Is it ethical for the government to control the behaviors of a citizen’s body? Doesn’t Amsterdam make it work? Shouldn’t we at least get a Continue reading

Thank you for following this blog as it has had a reasonably slow start. My goal is to be updating this 3 times/week with different posts. What is it that you would like to read about on this topic? My goal is to raise awareness of this topic and educate those enough in order to make small charges for a long term impact. Please leave a comment as to what you’d like to see posted. Thanks!
